The first major monograph on Poltrona Frau, Italy's leading furniture designer and manufacturer, on the eve of its hundredth anniversary. Poltrona Frau is one of the leading furniture designers and manufacturers in Italy. Founded in 1912, Poltrona Frau has been refining its sophisticated expertise in handcrafted workmanship for more than a century. This prestigious illustrated monograph highlights the entire corpus of design work by this iconic brand, including all types of seating (armchairs, sofas, chairs), interior furnishings, and seating for public spaces as well as interiors for cars, yachts, and airplanes. The defining ethos and sensibility of Poltrona Frau is a story of comfort, taste, and handmade products that combine tradition with innovation. It is a journey through time via classic and iconic pieces such as the Vanity Fair armchair or the Chester couch. Included are projects by Renzo Piano, Frank O. Gehry, Norman Foster, Santiago Calatrava, Jean Nouvel, Richard Meier, Lella and Massimo Vignelli, Jean-Marie Massaud, and many others who have collaborated with Poltrona Frau in creating unique pieces that rely on Poltrona Frau's knowledge of materials and techniques.
This book contains more than 15 essays that explore issues in truth, existence, and explanation. It features cutting-edge research in the philosophy of mathematics and logic. Renowned philosophers, mathematicians, and younger scholars provide an insightful contribution to the lively debate in this interdisciplinary field of inquiry. The essays look at realism vs. anti-realism as well as inflationary vs. deflationary theories of truth. The contributors also consider mathematical fictionalism, structuralism, the nature and role of axioms, constructive existence, and generality. In addition, coverage also looks at the explanatory role of mathematics and the philosophical relevance of mathematical explanation. The book will appeal to a broad mathematical and philosophical audience. It contains work from FilMat, the Italian Network for the Philosophy of Mathematics. These papers collected here were also presented at their second international conference, held at the University of Chieti-Pescara, May 2016.

This book takes the reader through Estel s history from the future to the past, working backward in five major phases of the company s progress. These phases are related through various illustrations, best called dioramas, covering double spreads that fold out, making four full-size pages. Especially created for the book by Pierluigi Longo, these dioramas emerge like modern-day frescoes in which the leading figures of the business world can be observed, along with the production panorama and market environment around them. They represent a sort of visualized concept that not only illustrates and tracks a path through the book, but also lends it concept and structure. The texts that follow each theme-diorama pivot successively on the company philosophy, the protagonists, the products, and a brief text classifying the furniture-manufacturing sector itself. Hence, the tale unfolds on two fronts simultaneously, interweaving the company s history with the ongoing developments in the sector and in methods of production.
